Although Aran Sweaters are known all over the world, Inis Meáin is the only knitting factory in the Aran Islands since 1976, when it was founded by the de Blacam family to provide employment for their fellow islanders and to help preserve the Aran Island's textile traditions. Each Inis Meáin piece is still designed, made and hand-finished in micro-batches at our workshop in Inis Meáin, employing 25 of the island's 180 population - helping to sustain the community on this very special Irish island rich in significant natural and cultural heritage.
