For generations, the wives of Island fishermen knitted Aran workwear for their husbands. A hundred years ago, Máire Cáit, a skilled and imaginative knitter, decided her husband’s workwear should look as special as his Sunday Best. Thanks to his wife’s fine craftwork and distinctive patterns, Máirtín Beag became known as a particularly well-dressed man. Inspired by her imagination and skill, the Máirtín Beag Galánta is an elegant and understated Aran Sweater which by now has become an Inis Meáin signature knitwear design. Galánta is used to describe an understated yet confident sense of style, similar to the Italian sprezzatura. Featuring intricate cables and a high neck finished with three horn buttons and hand-made button loops, creating stylish yet simple closures. Crafted with super-premium Cashmere and Merino yarn from Italian heritage producer, Filati Biagioli Modesto, made to the highest European environmental standards using only organic dyes.

Available in classic Black, a rich solid Green, and Black Mix, a creatively complex colour-way involving dark brown, charcoal, black and a rainbow of multi-coloured flecks. Designed, made and hand-finished in our Aran Islands workshop. An Aran Sweater made in the only knitwear factory in the Aran Islands - a true Aran from Aran.

Hassle-free Worldwide delivery with all taxes and duties included at checkout with no further payments required. All orders are shipped via DHL, except US orders shipped with UPS. A tracking number will be emailed to you once your order has left our factory.

Although we will do everything we can to deliver as fast as possible and usually within a few days, please allow up to a maximum 10 day shipping period due to our remote offshore island location where weather conditions can impact shipping your special package from the Aran Islands.

Extended Christmas Returns to the 16th of January for goods purchased since the 24th of November (overrides standard policy return times below). If we can help you with your seasonal gifting in any other way please let us know!

Our Online Shop Returns Policy means that if you are not fully happy with the goods you have received, you can return them to us within 14 days of receipt, providing they are in original resalable condition. Once returned you will be entitled to receive a refund, which will not include the cost of the original shipping.
