NEW Short Sleeve Polo

When the Honda 50 scooter arrived in Ireland in 1960 it sold in the thousands because of its low purchase price and fuel efficiency. The Aran Islands were no different, in fact the ever-popular Honda 50 could have been custom-designed for the island's winding narrow roads. Widely recognized as the most popular motorized vehicle ever with over 100 million sold in the last 60 years worldwide. 

Pictured is our Joint Managing Director, Ruairí de Blacam, aged about three, delighted to be playing on his father Tarlach's Honda 50 in Inis Meáin. Our lead shot by Bill Doyle shows the parish priest blessing the Honda 50s parked outside the island church in the 1970s. The Honda 50 and similar scooters remain a prominent feature on Inis Meáin's still-narrow roads and boreens to this day and an interesting resource for more information about this iconic vehicle is available here. 

In homage to the ever-popular ‘nifty fifty', quite a way back we incorporated distinctive biker jacket-inspired details into some of our classic silhouettes - all featuring a unique ribbed saddle shoulder. Adding to the Honda 50 Collection this season is the new Honda 50 Short Sleeved Polo. 

Modelled on the popular Buttoned Polo fastening at the neck in a four-button style, this versatile piece is great for a stroll on the beach in warmer weather or layering beneath one of our Linen Jackets on a cool evening. Available in Brown Marl, combining dark chocolate brown with a mélange of grey tones.

Our Honda 50 Crew Neck features additional biker-rib detailing on the lower sleeve and is a hugely wearable piece - both Tom and Alex in the office were wearing their linen-knit Honda 50 sweaters last week as the first days of Spring finally came to Inis Meáin. Stylish over jeans as elevated casual wear. Newly available in vibrant Mustard, joining versatile Khaki, navy-toned Charcoal, sky Blue,  and crisp White.

Again inspired by the sharply-defined shoulder detail of biker jackets, and fastened with four rather than the traditional three buttons, our Honda 50 Polo with long-sleeves delivers both attitude and comfort. Inis Meáin's long knitting heritage and expertise can be seen in the detail of the clean-knit saddle shoulder, discrete side slits and sharp knit collar. Newly added in Teal for Spring / Summer 2026 with limited stock remaining, and recently reknit in sporting Navy and classic Black. 

An Inis Meáin Signature Collection, all of the Honda 50 pieces are knit from the finest of Linen yarn. European Masters of Linen quality guarantees European linen of the highest standard and traceability from field to yarn to fabric. All designed, made and hand-finished as always in our Aran Island's workshop.
