Seasonal OverlapAn Island View

2nd August 2024

Although officially Autumn, from a vacation point of view, August is definitely summer in Inis Meáin and the month kicks off with the island’s annual sports festival. The highlight has always been the Currach Races – the local fishing boat featured in our logo – and traditionally locals from the two neighbouring islands would row over to take part in the sports and the revelry. Also a homecoming weekend for islanders settled elsewhere, flying home for summer vacation to Inis Meáin has quite a literal meaning as every house on the island can be seen on the landing approach, as well as our Workshop and Island Store to the right of the aerial view above.

If you find yourself in the Galway area, a day trip to Inis Meáin is a unique experience and we’d be delighted to welcome you at our Island Store from Wednesdays to Saturdays. The Store, designed by preeminent architect Shane de Blacam, features fresh new styles across Mens, Womens and Accessories, as well as archive sales and imperfects, all made in the Workshop next door. A Travel Toolkit is available on the website of Inis Meáin Islands Stays here.
